Hi, About a month ago I purchased an XK-6 synth and love it. However after getting into it and my Korg ER-1 big time and coming up with some good whacked out music I decided to go after the $500 XL-7 for the added polyphony and the sequencer. At the time I didn't realize that the XL-7 had the same sounds as the XK-6. I still would've bought it though as it was a lot cheaper than the MP-7 and I could always add the Pure Phatt ROM. Now here is my question. I am still within my return window to return the XK-6. I was thinking that maybe I should just swap it out for the PK-6. I wouldn't mind having the bread and butter sounds if they are cool. I am into making whacked out New Orleans melodic trance, but am also into straight ahead jazz and composing for some of my films. If the PK-6 board has good Hammond sounds and strings I might be tempted to swap, but I heard that the PK-6 Pop ROM kind of blew. That it had a lot of varied sounds but that they were all mediocre, poor piano, organs, etc. I don't really need a good piano as I have a real one and also a Yamaha P120 that has great quality real and electric piano sounds. I'd be more interested in the upright bass, jazz drum kits, hammond organs, and string sounds. The trouble is none of my local stores have anything with the Pop ROM for me to give a listen to, only the MP7 and XL7. I don't currently use a software sequencer although I may get something in the future for composing stuff other than techno and acid jazz. Should I swap boards or just get the PS Orchestra ROM and Hammond ROM or Pop ROM for the XK-6? I realize that I have redundancy with the XL-1 ROM being in the Xl-7 and XK-6 but I have gotten attached to the XK-6. Also, are there any positives to having both? Anyone out there using both the XK and XL? I picked up a Techno ROM on ebay after hearing a few demos and tunes using it but haven't installed it yet. Don't know which E-mu to stick it in or if I'll keep the XK-6. FWIW I also have a Korg MS2000 so I don't really need to get another VA synth and I hate the regular bread and butter synths like the Alesis QS and Korg X5D type rich man's General MIDI things. Is the PK-6 hipper than those? I love the yellow everywhere but I may just end up with the PK-6. Help me please. Should I keep the XK-6. I love the beats mode... I wish that I would've discovered this group a few months ago. Not really in a pickle but the sentimental attachment to the XK-6 is growing every day. I just don't want to swap it for something boring. Thanks, Daniel
