Re: MIDI access to front panel commands

2003-07-19 by steve_the_composer

Thanks for the details. I am spending some time on this today.

I use the ART-15 FC with a digital horn (and keyboard) to
do CC end effects on/off with Roland's M-GS-64. (Its great for
playing a guitar preset and then using CC to glide into harmonic
feedback.) I would like to be able to do similar things with the E-
Mu. (Hands-free RT control, that is. Can't do the guitar thing--no
factory preset and I haven't designed my own, yet.)

Can the FCB-1010 be programmed to send sysex commands--not its own
dumps, but user defined sysex commands? (The X-15 can't.) The E-Mu
has remote control capabilities via sysex. Unfortunately, it does
not appear to be complete (unless I'm mistaken).

Via sysex, for example, you can switch the bank of 16 buttons between
Track and Trigge Mode. In track mode, you can turn tracks 4 and 8 on
and off remotely.

You can send data knob changes via remote control. So, if the front
panel is set up on the unit itself to edit tempo, you can send a
sysex command to turn the knob + or - any value to instantaneously
change the tempo.

There's a lot of potential with remote control. Perhaps it will be
more fully implemented in future OS upgrades (I hope.)

More later.
