Downloading problems

2001-12-06 by InfidelsRe@aol.com

I have been unable to successfully download the 1.01 OS for the XL-7.

On my newer computer which is a PC with Windows ME with a Sound Blaster LIVE Value Card, I was first running under a Microsoft Java version. In this configuration, the button to download to the XL-7 on the OS Downloader screen never became available. Also the EZ Loader program would always freeze if I ever tried to open it a second time.

The XL-7 was in the proper mode, saying searching for OS and its midi out light was blinking, sending out a request.

However the midi monitor never on the EZ Loader never detected any activity.

I took the XL-7 to another computer running Win 98 and loaded the program. This was an older computer with an older Yamaha soundcard. I checked the Java version and it was the Microsoft version that was the minimum version. I hooked up the XL-7 and had it ready and this time the Midi monitor on the EZ Loader DID detect the XL-7, and the button DID become available but when pressed did not recognize that the XL-7 was there and nothing was downloaded.

Next:
Back to the original computer running Win ME.

I downloaded the latest Sun Java program and uninstalled the EZ loader and downloaded the latest OS Downloader from the EMu website. It looked different. This time the button was available to download but still the message came back that it did not detect the request from the XL-7.

I have now tried two computers, one with Win Me and the other with Win 98, tried the JAva and the Microsoft javas, have downloaded the OS Downloader from the website and used the enclosed CD to load the program. Nothing has worked.

I've also noticed that the very latest (1.1.7) OS is not available for download anymore. What's the problem?

It would seem to be fairly important to get the latest OS version according to all I've read. What do I do next?

Can I bring it somewhere where it can be done in the 20 minutes it should take to do this? I've wasted a lot of time trying to get this to work.

I live in Huntington, Long Island, New York.
