as far as bang for the buck is concerned...i agree that you can get a lot more sampler for the money going the rack mount route. i am planning on getting some type of rack sampler within 3 mnths. I'm a 'hobbyist' with a very limited budget as well. Have been looking into software and such. but i keep coming back to my need to 'touch' hardware, and not deal with a mouse and keyboard too much. I guess i just don't like to be near my computer during musical conception, save for refining sequences, recording audio, or other more complex parts of making a song. i love sequencing on the XL even though software is much more powerful. Maybe that's because it think like a hobbyist and not a professional? you already have a desktop conroller..with pads no less, but for subjective reasons i presume, you are drawn towards the mpc. I know a guy who has one, been able to mess around with it, but not too indepth, in any case, i really don't like its interface, and overall "feeling" i get from it. I lean towards Tech House and Euro Trance (don't laugh), and dab into other styles to a lesser extent, and the mpc just doesn't "feel" right to me. If the mpc "feels" better to you than a rack sampler, then saving 500 bucks or however much, really isn't a big factor i suppose. Go with whatever suits your creative flow i guess, if you can afford it. Sv --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, "sincultura13" <sincultura13@y...> wrote: > I'm going to second the rack sampler advice...
