After much messing about with controlling my external gear from my XL7, I can only conclude that there are serious flaws in the OS that are getting in the way of my being able to use this gear. My setup: XL7, chained to ER1, EA1, DX200 off midi port B, using three seperate midi channels. Using the event viewer, I can send prg chg to the external devices and it works but there are inconsistencies: 1)the timing will drift between the EA1 and ER1. You could make a case of this being these devices, but this never happens when I use Sonar. 2)Changing bewteen patterns that send out prg chg messages, sometimes the prg chgs are not transmitted or I guess the external modules don't receive the changes, but that seems unlikely to me. Again, this is a random occurance, so I have a hard time tracking it down. 3)Looking at these midi files in Eloader, I can't even see where the prg chg messages are. I use track 16 for this, and they don't even show up. If I open the same file in Sonar, I can see track 16 with the prg chgs. If I then simply save the file, with no changes, and dump it back into the XL7, it will no longer send out the prg chgs. If I look at the newly saved file in Eloader, now I can see the prg chgs - but again, after loading it into the XL, it won't send out the midi info. What the heck is up with that? 4) Would it really be that hard to make the display in the event viewer change to match what I want to see? I mean: I would like to go to an event at a certain bar, beat and tick and see what is there currently. For instance, I want to look at an event at 001:001:002 on ch10. If I go to that event, the display just doesn't tell me what is already there. Sorry if this is bitchy, but I really like the XL and it seems like these should be simple corrections, since this box is supposed to "effortlessly control" my external gear. I have contacted Emu by email but have gotten no reply, and its difficult for me to call during business hours. thx Dana
