At Guitar Center they had a bunch of powered monitors all hooked up to a large mixing board.
So it was easy to A/B the speakers. The KRK's had a much better defined mid range, while the
Mackie's were a close second. If I had to choose the monitors that showed me the most music, the
KRK's came out on top. Clearest definition of the whole pack.
Granted I didn't spend hours and hours auditioning them, and I found a good price on a used
pair on eBay. I like eBay because I can usually sell something for close to what I paid for it.
If I'm careful about not overbidding, I can sometimes make a little bit of money when I resell it.
If I ever go for another set of powered monitors, I'll do it before I sell the KRK's so that I
can audition them in the privacy of my studio.
