Hi, this is actually a basic problem with all synthesizers not just EMU's. When you turn your decay all the way up the note is still on until the entire note and decay are done playing. So when you are playing multiple notes each of them takes up polyphony. You only have 128 voices (or samples) you can play at once total, and the guitar patch may actually use 1 to 4 samples, so if you have 16 notes of guitar per bar, and you have several seconds of decay per note, by the end of the bar you might be using anywhere from 16 to 64 notes of polyphony, after two bars depending on your tempo this could equal 128 voices. If anything else tried to play, there wouldn't be any room left to play. Synthesizers use "note stealing" to cut out the oldest notes first to make room for the new sounds. So the more tracks you have the more noticable this will be. A guitar isn't usually played like this anyway, only a few notes are actually left open at a time, they restart the decay when you strum, and the other notes are being changed, so realistically you have many different decay times going on at a time. You could make a copy of the patches and save them with different decay times, and only use a few of the full decay ones at a time mixed with the "strum" or note pick decays. Hope this helps, Andre -----Original Message----- From: drewaight1 [mailto:drewaight@...] Sent: Sunday, April 20, 2003 5:22 PM To: xl7@yahoogroups.com Subject: [xl7] Another peculiar question Here's a very odd Bug ive been having. One of my patterns has a distorted guitar chord in it. I turned the sustain and release knobs far to the right so that when I hit the key it slowly fades away, (just like a rock guitar big strum). Sounds great. However, after my pattern has been playing for sometime the sustain and release on that preset randomly revert to being short, ending the guitar hit where I let go of the key. It seems to be at random, and it also seems to be worse when other tracks are playing, I have tried erasing all controller messages and resaving the preset with the sustain and release turned up but to no avail. If anyone has encountered this problem, or more importantly the solution it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
