Just as the Ensoniq ASR-X, the outputs on the MP/XL are quite a bit 
hotter than the usual devices...you will also notice that the XL?MP 
is quite full of really potentially dangerous to monitor sound 
artifacts such as pops and clips.  Turn the volume to 3/4 the way on 
when sending this things output signal to anything in your rig.  As 
far as the internal sound being different from what comes out the 
main out jacks; yes, there is a difference, the output is seemingly 
EQ'd in a grungy undesirable way, heavy almost muddy lows with 
degraded highs...hmmm, but let's not forget headphones and speakers 
are and will always be indisputably different in frequency handling, 
and depending on stereo placement of speakers the stereo will not be 
rendered quite as well as having a set of cans placed directly over 
each ear.  Hope this helps somewhat.
