You're right, I lied.  (not intentionally!  =)

"Mix" is selectable in the song mode "use" list, just like FX is. 
Chances are that if set to use song & patterns, the pattern is winning.
 The song only saves mix settings for channels you record into the song
track.

I'd recommend in general to save your mix settings with the pattern. 
If what you're after really is to be able to put the SAME pattern in
different songs with different send *selections* (not amounts!), then
by all means, use the song track to insert an event for that channel
and pick "use song events" for mix.
