I play guitar a bit and couldn't resist a plugging in and playing along. Of course I soon wanted some good chord changes. Instead of sequencing a long song I'll make a 16 bar pattern in the root chord and on another track I will write an alternate chord pattern. This is usually sufficient for jamming around a simple chord pattern (just use the mute buttons). Of course if you write something complex you can assemble the whole thing in pieces using song mode. As mentioned earlier, this machine is not really designed as an accompanying instrument. They make gear that reads your chord changes for sure. My father uses one that does vocal harmony on the fly amazingly. I have a Yamaha personal musical assistant, pma-7 I believe. Using it's patterns and things I can program whole songs full of chord changes and all the instruments change accordingly. Only problem is that you have to use "it's" patterns. The xl7 is way more challenging and has far more possibilities. You can write the whole score, build every instrument from scratch and play/sequence every single note. Cut, paste, edit... try other instruments or wave forms, loop, mix...transpose some or all of the individual parts, edit every single note again and again. You do it all. There isn't any middle ground between the two types of machines as far as I know. The xl7 is a challenge but I like using it more and more each day. And 2.0 made it even better. Have fun. -S _______________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo http://search.yahoo.com Yahoo!
