well I use the xl-7 as center for my liveact... using other synths:
access virusb
jomox xbase09
future retro 777
emu esi 32

and it works great....I am not a yamaha freak, cause I had the RM1x and sold
the box cause it was not that cool.... other option is the MPC3000... but
safe the money and buy additional a EMU ESI32 . and youve got also a good
sampler.... one big bonus of the XL-7 are the programmable knobs... real
great for synth which are controllable over midi.... or even for rebirth in
your PC.... maybe the mpc is a little bit constant in its timing.... but it
has also an easier engine... not as powerful as the xl-7....(ok... there are
still some bugs...but time will solve them..) and I like the stepsequencer
in da xl-7 for drum programming.... all over all: GET THE XL-7.... but
thats my opinion... you should go to the shop and test the boxes... some
like yamaha, some akai.. and other ( like johannes heil..) the roland
MC-80.... I had the Yamaha RM1x and the Roland MC-80.... and now the XL-7...
and its the best liveact center I have ever seen and used.... last weekend
in full action ....
also nice: teh lamp on the xl-7---- > good for bad club conditions....
