Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

is emu saying that you can do this? for example,

Have an external sequencer/controller connected to the MIDI in of XL7,
play an external sound module thats connected to the MIDI OUT B,
And somehow record the sequence on the XL-7. Then play it back on the 
xl-7 without using that first sequencer/controller ??

anyone doing this

2)this is probably an easy question but anyway - How can I mute on 
and off the channels in real time while xl-7 is playing.
I have 32 channels, 16 internal on 1-16A and 1-16B are External thru 
MIDI OUT B.
