Live PA means a dude with his head bobbing behind a desk and you can't tell what he is doing. (who here has the guts to go onstage, pop in a cd and bob your head as you play your gameboy behind the desk?? One day I will do that . . ).
What's a non-live PA?
I am glad to learn that no one truly knows what that is about. The term raised my eyebrows higher than the term Sound Design (which of course now I do . . :) )\
Even if it is a more modern term, it is a lame uninteresting combo of words.
I would rather truly describe what you are doing. I.e.
"tonight I am playing a psychotrance dance set,"
"What do you mean?"
"I am performing. It's a show"
"I don't get it, are you a dj?"
"No, I am actually playing the instruments, and triggering sequences"
"Oh,cool,"
Unless its like:
"I am doing a Live PA tonight."
"Live PA! You are God! Can I have sex with you right here, right now?"
On second thought, I play Live PAs!!! (but I don't tell dudes).
