I know what you mean.  I think the price is outrageous as well.  The 
only reason I buy Flash RAM is because it saves me having to lug 
around another piece of rack gear to live shows.  I am willing to 
spend the extra money in exchange for having one set of audio outputs 
to connect in the dark, and only one MIDI connection... less to go 
wrong, quick to set up and tear down, more reliable than a hard 
drive, and the whole live rig is physically smaller (very important 
when trying to load equipment and people in a small car).

If I were just using the XL7 in the studio, I would *not* buy the 
flash ram; I'd just use my E5000.  Since I play out a lot though, I 
can justify the cost.
