the word "patch" goes further than that. Inside each preset, there are "patch cables," which you can use to connect internal operations. Lets say that you want the velocity (how hard you hit the pad) to control a filter... All you have to do is make a "patch chord" that goes from VEL --> Fliter Cutoff. This would cause the filter amount to be higher the harder you hit a note on the keypad. THere are endless possibilities for sound design in this area.
