I used to have problems with older Emu gear and sysex - The only thing I can think of is to change your device ID in the MP7 to another number (should be in the Midi menu). This would only be usefull if you are really transmitting to more than one device, IE you had a Yamaha keyboard or something and the sysex for this was being used on the XL7 with random results because the ID's are the same. This will sometimes happen if you are using midi echo functionality and another piece of gear sends out sysex rpn or nrpn info, which gets echoed back to the MP7, once again just make sure your device ID's are different. Another Sysex related culprit would be if you were transmitting sysex patch info (from a previous sysex dump into cubase) too quickly for the MP7 to process correctly. If you're doing something like this you want to make sure that there is a tempo change event at the very beggining of your cubase project to something like 60bpm, transmit your sysex, then a few bars later put another tempo change in to the tempo you really want it at. If you play back sysex via your sequencer (Usually just to make sure your song always loads the right sounds correctly no-matter-what) you need to make sure the speed doesn't pump too much accross midi or it will get corrupted. If you are really just using the MP7 by itself, or not using sysex, I would really suggest going through the self test functions (Hold down the left and right cursor buttons while powering on) to see if it thinks it's ok. If it reports problems (Note you will fail the Midi Loopback test unless you plug one side of a midi cable in to out A on the MP7, and the other into In on the MP7) you will have to send it back to Emu, but they are really good about making your life better so it could be worse. If you DO get it to come back up, definately make a backup of all your work using eLoader or something. I was able to play my patterns and presets successfully. I thought everything was OK, then I tried to play some patterns from cubase via MIDI and the LED on the MP7 went crazy. It started scrolling from left to right displaying alot of strange characters. I stopped the midi transmission and the stuff continued to scroll across the MP7 screen. I powered the unit off and now I have the same problem again of the machine not booting and all the LEDS remaining lit. Has anyone run into this problem or similar before? --- Andre Lewis <andrel@...> wrote: > I remember something about it not booting if you > didn't have it screwed > completely back together?
