Yipes. Sounds like you may have shocked the poor thing while you were installing the SIMM or something. I'd recommend taking it to a service center. In short of that, I'd check to make sure that nothing got dropped in the unit while installing the ROM and that you didn't bend any pins on the socket. Also, make sure all the ribbon cables are connected (but I think you said you already did that).
