Currnet Emu filter math used by the DSP in the Proto 2K series does not let the resonance of the filter change over the course of the note. Resonance is fixed at note on. We went 'round about this quite a bit last week. Personally it is an annoyance, as I tend to use 16th or 32nd note runs on stuff I want to monkey with the res on. Can't even notice it then. Cutoff is another matter. That works just fine in real time. With the crazy modulation these things do you can have quite a bit of fun with it too. With luck they will do some work on the filters before long and life will be even better. As has been stated before the fact that the Proto 2K modules are using the 14 pole filter designs (first seen in the Morpheus) requires some pretty hefty math. One of the things that the Emu guys did to get the filters so that a DSP could run them in real time was to limit the number of variables. So resonance got fixed at note on. There is opinion in the group that modern DSPs with their increased power might be able to handle real time resonance adjustments. So far there has not been comment from the Emu folks on this list if this is something that they are tinkering with in the back room, and no comment is expected. There is also some agreement that while the Emu filters might need some upgrading, as the "analog" impersonations are not on part with the ones from most of the VA synths (Novation, Korg, Waldorf) that you can get.
