well i was not expecting a long thread on that post but i may as well reply to it. After reading all the posts this is what i was left thinking. Good production as pertaining to vinyl and all music depends on the content. The music i produce does not require a ton of compresion. I use some compresion on the mids and more on the highs to smooth things out and keep them from hurting the head. I could go on for hours on this topic of mastering but this is just to say that some of my fave recordings dont use a single fx send. Take a listen to some dan bell and the like. The minimal synth stuff is MINIMAL and that is the way it sounds best. As much presence as possable. I never said that the xl7+behringer tube composer+ultracureve pro combo sounded better i said that it had more presence. I have engineered tracks that have been pressed by lables like Tresor siesmic and restructured. There is not alot of compression on any of the tracks that i have put on vinyl. Most of my friends that produce tracks that get pressed dont put alot of compression on there tracks either. Good fx and good mix is the key in my book. and good gates. and and and LOL. take care ya all Mike G that is my two cents
