John, I think what Jonathan was talking about is a seperate ROM. The marketing specs(pdf)on the **-7's say that is has the X-Lead and Pure Phatt ROM's in the respective units but how is that possible? If you look at the Pure Phatt and X-Lead specs(bank list), you see that there are BEATs on those ROM's. There are no BEAT's on the **-7's, just kits to use in pattern mode. I think they are using the same waveforms and instuments but if you have played around with them both, P1K vs **-7, you will see a difference in the presets(some, not all though). That is why they(E-MU)offered the XL-1 and Mo'Phatt banks separate because of this.
