You can create your song as long as those track mutes/unmutes are at least one bar in length. In song record mode you insert patterns one after another for any duration you like, but at least one bar (as far as I can tell). If you can manage your song with track mutes of at least a whole bar you can do exactly what you are asking. You just insert that pattern over and over in it's varied form until you have what you want. You may have to pencil it out as it is easy to get lost a couple hundred bars down the line.
