If you can transfer sequences, I can't think of a good reason why the OS 
Downloader wouldn't work. It uses the same essential protocol.

Are you sure the unit is in OS Download mode? You have to press and hold 
the Enter button while you boot the XL-7 and wait for the top line of 
the LCD to say 'Waiting for OS...'

If you select the 'Show available MIDI Devices' command from the the 
MIDI menu can you see the XL-7 show up in the list?

What kind of computer are you using (Mac, PC) and what version of OS and 
Java VM is installed? Have you tried rebooting your computer?

If you open the Message Console (found in the Window menu) it may 
display some low level diagnostic information that may be of value in 
troubleshooting this. If you send me a copy and paste of the contents of 
that message window I may be able to decipher something from it.
