What this does is let you play a track at a subdivision or multiple of the tempo. So you can, for example, play a line at half speed, double speed, or even 3/2 speed. You can adjust the time-factor in real-time. One of the reasons this works in the RM1x is that they already support separate loop lengths for each track in a pattern.
