Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

You probably have a patch cord that  goes vel -->  filter res  - which means
the softer you play the lower the filter frequency will be...  The lower the
filter frequency, the less "bright" the instrument will sound.  Remove the
patch chord in PRESET EDIT and you'll be fine....
