Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

Ok guys, based on the list conversations happening last week, here's the 
official rules for our not-so-official, first ever XX-7 contest:

1. All tracks must be no longer than 6 minutes, encoded to MP3 format at 
44.1kHz, and no greater than 192Kbs.  If you need an encoder, WinLame is a 
free download and I think the best sounding encoder out.  It can be found 
at: "http://winlame.sourceforge.net/".

2. You can only use the internal sounds, effects, and sequencing 
capabilities of the XX-7's to create your song.  So no external samplers, 
sequencers, computers, effects processors, or synths. I think it's fair to 
use an external controller keyboard, provided it's not something like say 
a Karma that can generate really complex arps or CC data that the XX-7's 
aren't capable of. Ideally, you should just record the output of your song 
from the XX-7 into the computer, encode it to MP3, and that's it. No 
mastering!   The point of this contest is to let all listmembers compete 
on a common platform, so we're taking external gear out of the equation 
completely.

3. All tracks will be hosted at "http://emucs.iuma.com" once the site is approved (only a couple more days).  Once you have 
conmpleted your track, email me at "rEalm619@..." and I'll send 
you the upload instructions and passwords.  Please don't email the list 
telling them your song is ready for download, we're going to try and keep 
this anonymous until the voting it over.  So don't place your name in the 
MP3 ID Tags! :)

4. All entries must be completed and uploaded to the site by Jan 10th. 
Please don't wait until the last night to upload your tune, this really 
slows things down and ultimately may mean your song doesn't get uploaded 
to the site in time.  Voting will take place Jan 11th-19th, with the 
winners announced on Jan 20th.  I'll set up a poll on the Yahoogroups XL-7 
site, where users can go and vote on their 1 favorite song.  I'm still 
hoping that someone not entering a song can take over this aspect, as I 
plan on entering and in the interest of fairness don't want to be the one 
responsible for the voting aspect of this contest too.

5. Keep notes of how you made your song, once all the votes are in we'll 
post our production notes for all to read. That way not only can other's 
hear what you did, they can read about how you DID it too.

6. I don't think the overall goal of this should be to win though, it's 
more to have fun, let others hear your stuff, get new ideas yourself, and 
possibly even gain some constructive critism. We have no way of knowing 
who cheats, so let's just use the honor system and NO ONE CHEAT!

Hopefully those rules are to everyone's approval, there's nothing really 
too out there.  I also hope that many, many people will take part in this 
contest.  It's all for fun, so you don't need to be experienced to take 
part.  If you're not good at doing songs, just perform a pattern in 
realtime and record the results.  Also, if you REALLY can't take part by 
writing a song, then at least take part by listening to the songs and 
voting.  That way we don't get 20 people entering and all voting for their 
own song :)
