favourite efx settings?

2002-08-08 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

Maybe some efx experts tell their secrets how they set their efx settings
(global menu of course) on their command stations to achieve a tight sound
thats ready for the final mix: (Can you go with the internal efx only or
do you use external gear in any case?)

>>>Good topic! Personally I think it's possible to get a great mixing
happening right from the XX-7's, while the effects certainly aren't the
most inspiring, imaginative, or controllable, they are definitely very
clean and quality sounding.<<<

Which reverbs? (A)
Send percentage?

>>>I mostly use a different reverb for every pattern, at least I can't
recall any one reverb standing out to me as being one I reach for more
than any other. Maybe the Warm room or Perfect Room get more use than
others. I usually set the HF cut at about 64-78.

Typical settings:
Send 1 = 0 - BD's and other instruments I want dry.
Send 2 = 2-3% - For snares, HH's, things needing just a touch of ambience.
Send 3 = 12-26% - For leads or pads.
Send 4 = 50-70% - Good for effects and wierd stuff. <<<

Which delay/modulation efx (B)
Send Percentage?

>>>I really like the PanDelayChorus 1&2, they add a lot of depth to your
Presets, and help to widen the stereo image some when you need that.
Delays are synced to MIDI Clock at 1/8th or 1/4notes, sometimes 1/8T for
more out there stuff. Feedback is typically around 30-45.

Send 1 = 0
Send 2 = 1-2%
Send 3 = 15-36%
Send 4 = 60-70%<<<

(Pity there is no compression possible)

>>>Agreed, although I'd be loath to give up an effect slot for it. I'd
love a global compressor and simple EQ. <<<
