I don't think it "squishes" them into one track, the pattern track assignments still hold. The song mode is just telling your XX-7 what order to play the patterns in, unless I'm mistaken. The song track is there incase you want to overdub knob movements throughout the song, add tempo changes, etc. Only downside is that with a single track, editing a bad pass on a single channel can be tedious. rEalm [Byron] ah, I understand now...I hadn't realized that it wouldn't 're-associate' the patterns external channel settings to correlate with the song for live overdubbing and playing....and no, I DID NOT read the manual, I apologize, but I usually save that as a last resort in better hopes of instinct taking over (and working)...I was expecting it to break the pattern up onto seperate tracx automatically, not squish them onto one, but it's all becoming quite clear :))
