The XX-7 doesn't have the capability to burn ROMs, so sending the sounds via USB wouldn't do any good; it will only recognize .smf files and XX-7 preset files, hence you'll still need an E4 around to do any burning.
That'll be a great combo to have; an E4 Ultra and the E5 software. I'm anticipating you'll be able to create instruments in the E5 that your E4 will be able to read. You'll be able to use your favorite sound editor to make your sounds, then use the E5 to export them to an E4 readable disk.
Haven't heard anything on the price. There's more info on the E5 here:

Original Message:
the new sampler - Emulator 5 Latest word is that it will be a full
functional Software sampler. Will this software allow us to burn our
own samples into the XX-7's 32 MB Flash ROM without the E4 Ultra
hardware. And if so would the sound be sent through the usb
connection or the midi ports. How much would this software cost and
when will it be release to the public.
Thanks ahead of time.
Peace
Al
