Re: [xl7] New rEalm OS wishlist

2002-06-10 by David Jones

I would have to agree with realm on this one. When I'm editing a preset, I should be able to hit save and it saves the preset. Also, it would be nice if you could "lock" your presets to prevent accidental overwriting :)
The sync on my unit to Alesis MMT8, computer, and korg ES-1 is flawless!

Nah if you're in Pattern Mode (selected under the display) pressing Save defaults to "Save Pattern". If you're in Preset Mode, it defaults to "Save Preset". So far so good. The problem, is that you can be in Preset Mode, yet still be moving things around in Pattern Edit screens. So, if you press Save right from a Pattern Edit screen, the Save menu still defaults to "Preset Save", even though you may think you're going to save the Pattern.

Yeah, yeah, I know you can just scroll and select Save Pattern, but I'm really bad at quick saving in the heat of the moment. That SAVE+CURSOR+ENTER+ENTER routine is second nature now, and too many times lately I've fired off the combo only to realize I just overwrote a Preset, when I meant to save the Pattern. It's my own fault of course, but changing to behavior to the way I suggested seems logical, and might help out others besides myself.

BTW, what sequencer timing problems are you having, internal or external gear? I can't speak for sequencing external gear, but the internal timing is the tightest I've ever seen in a "groovebox", or any hardware sequencer save maybe a MPC60 or 3000...

If you've edited the pattern, then the SAVE page should default to
saving the pattern rather than the preset, non? I don't understand why
the "preset mode" should make any difference.

My wish-list:

(i) fix all the bugs;
(ii) tighten up the sequencer timing.
