Cool, sounds like Aaron's idea for controlling Resonance in real time from
the EMu site... Nice one mate!

Subject: [xl7] 3-EQ modulation trick, for all EMU modules!
Yay! Just experimented with the E-MU XL-7 for a while and discovered
how to set up a 3 band equalizer.
Try this. Go into preset editor, Make an one-layer preset you like.
It should not use any filters at all. Important: Key velocity should
not be routed to the filter at this moment, we'll come back to this
later.
Now unassign all knobs that has anything to do with the filter. Go
into the filter menu, and set cutoff to 127 (and resonance to zero)
Copy the first layer you've done now to layer 2 and layer 3.
Go back to preset edit, for the first layer, select a 6db (2 order)
LP filter. For the second layer, select a 6db BP filter and for the
third layer select a 6db HP filter. Now set up the knobs that usually
controlls the filters to instead controll the amp of each of the 3
layers.
Now you have a 3 band equalizer. Nice isn't it!
"But what if I want the key velocity to controll the cutoff point of
the filters?"
No, this should not be done. Instead, it's better to route the key
velocity to the amp of layer 3 (HP) to bring in the high frequencies
only when you hit the keys with high velocity...
Now you just need to tweak your sound to get it sound just right....
