XL-7 and ASR-X Pro a good combo?

2001-09-30 by alex.udell@autodesk.com

Hi Guys...

I've got an ASR-X pro that I keep threatening to dump...then I learn
some new cool thing about it particulary with it's effects and
envleopes and resampling working in combination that remind me that
it is quite a jewel and worth keeping around...

So recently I've been looking at secondary sequencer options that
might be useful (as I've never been particularly pleased with the
ASR's internal SEQ)...I like quick experimenting...so the Yamaha RM1x
and RS7000 seem like good options....In fact I finally got to put my
hands on the RS7K yesterday....WHOO MAN that seems like a really cool
box....the sequncer seems a bit unconventional....but really good for
live performance....so I assume the RM1x which uses the same basic
engine ought to be good as well...However because of the
unconventional nature of their SEQ's, the learning curve seems a bit
steep...

I just started considering the XL-7....I like the idea of having
access to the Proteus sounds as well as the William Coakley's piano
(he's a good friend and mentor of mine BTW)...

Anyhow....anyone out there used the RM1x sequencer for studio
prod/live perf care to compare it to the XL-7....

I like the specs, especially thre repeat function (GOSH HOW I MISS
THAT!) and the ARP's....and a REAL SYNTH ENGINE on top of it....(My
M1 could stay in the closet for good!) The MP3's sound pretty good
too.

Anyone think the XL-7 and ASR-X would be a good combo?

And one more thing b4 I go:

As we seem to have the attention of some EMU folks on the board
here...can anyone encapsualte the history of how this unit came
about? Seems like this was influenced a bit by the ensoniq
acquisition (FX structures....Pads...tiny display ;-))

Thanks guys!
