I think that a few years ago this was true, but with a decent set up, MIDI 
over USB is just fine nowadays.  If it (USB) can handle 4 tracks of 24 bit 
audio, there's no reason why it can't handle MIDI.  RME has a great 
article on the fallicies of poor midi timing over USB, worth a read for 
those interested.

In fact, many would argue that MIDI over USB is a 
disadvantage, because USB is inherently sloppier timing wise than 
traditional MIDI. But we do realize why people want it, and it is on our 
feature list.
