RE: [xl7] Re: Completely off topic but...

2002-05-14 by Andre Lewis

Mostly I record into Sonar, chop it up and clean it up then export midi clips and audio clips into Fruity. There are things you have to do to make life easier, like recording at your project tempo etc. but I will definately record audio and midi in Sonar to get the phrases down and to edit them, but I'll bring them back into fruity to work with, since I can add LFO and reverse them, filter them etc. The thing I like the best about fruity loops is the mute groups and mute itself for samples. I can get staggered beats and melodies by retriggering and using another sound to cut the original sound. Fruity is over the top as a sampler equivelant.

How exactly do you 'hybrid' it? Do you write stuff in fruity, then save it out as a midi file an import it into Sonar??

I just hybrid it to Sonar when I need to mix and match. I find it easier to construct things in fruity but record in Sonar/Cubase. I've done a ton of stuff in fruity. Anyone know of a good place to post some of my tracks for you to listen to? Non MP3.com of course.

I have to say, that writing breaks and percussion tracks in Fruityloops is a hell of a lot easier than in any of the 'big 3' computer sequencers - it's just a shame that the midi implementation is a bit weak and you can't do multitrack audio recording etc. otherwise i think it'd be great to link fruity up to my XL7 and Virus.

My friend Jason Mendelke uses only Fruity Loops, doesn't even own a MIDI keyboard or plug ins (or know shit about music, other than DJing), yet has two techno tracks signed and getting pressed as we speak. Bastard! :)

Sorry, I wasn't meaning to spam - I just thought you guys might be interested in it. Over the last year or so, I've spent a hell of a lot of cash on hardware, including my XL7, and it's interesting to see what people can come up with using a 99$ piece of software.
