I haven't tried it, but I would assume that a patch change message would be very easy to embed in a track, if you are using an external sequencer for track construction. Since it would receive the patch change message every time the loop went round you'ld probably need to program it during a pause - unless your synth is capable of instantaneous patch changes. Most of my gear wouldn't be able to do this seamlessly.
