Re: [xl7] Recording BTS triggers again!

2002-04-09 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

What exactly is BTS for??

>>>I assume it's short for "Beats mode". <<<

Is it for demo purposes?

>>>No, although it could be used that way I suppose. <<<

There doesn't really seem to be any correlation between patterns and
BTS. BTS will continue playing even after the pattern is stopped.

>>>When using BTS. It's best to thing of your XL-7 as having two
sequencers, the main one and the BTS one. They can run independantly of
each other, or synced up, it's up to you how to use them. <<<

Triggers do not bring BTS parts in on the beat (e.g not in sync with the
pattern), unless you hit Audition to bring the BTS in.

>>>The box can't do EVERYTHING for you! A sense of timing is good to have
when doing electronic music, no? <<<

Also you cannot record the BTS parts in pattern or song mode.

>>>Yes you can, set the BTS part to unlatched and record the Trigger press
while you sequencer is set tot eh right MIDI channel. <<<

Also how do you make your own BTS presets (as some of you seem to be
doing.)

>>>It's easy, just pick a Preset (any will work), then press Preset Edit,
and scroll to the audition/riff page. From here, move the cursor to the
lower line an select any Uadition riff with "BTS" before it, and save the
Preset. Bam, you're done! <<<

The BTS riffs do sound very cool, but either I am not using them correctly
or they are not very well integrated into the XL interface.

>>>Probably both, no offense. BTS are cool to a point, personally I think
it would rock to be able to make your own, but anyway... Just keep
thinking of BTS as Audition Riffs that have 16 parts and you're halfway to
understanding the feature. As for integration, I think that the box does
the best it can do, but yeah it could be slightly more streamlined to make
it easier. They basically threw it in after the fact to address people
wanting RPS features in the XL-7. I told Aaron they were going to get A
LOT of questions on this feature when they released the new OS :) <<<

Maybe the XL-1 manual will shed some light ... I'm off to find it now.

>>>Try the Orbit 3 one too, although I think you'll find they're almost
identical manuals for that section. <<<
