Just got enlightened - isn't the arpeggiator part of the preset? Thus, if output is set to External, arpeggiator won9;t be triggered. The manual says:
"If you don’t want the internal XL-7 preset to sound, create a “dummy” preset with no instruments selected and the arpeggiator turned on."
It's a bit counter-intuitive though (if not disappointing), that "Transmit Arp/Riff MIDI Out" is global, and track-level settings of output have nothing to do with it. That way if one decides to use a pattern with three arpeggiated tracks to control an external sound module, even though configuring MIDI channels will prevent the receiving device from playing too much, it won't stop XL-7 from sending surplus MIDI messages."If you don’t want the internal XL-7 preset to sound, create a “dummy” preset with no instruments selected and the arpeggiator turned on."

I think - with all due respect - that Steve's advice was a bit too early. What I would do, if I were to "debug" this issue, would be to use a normal preset, and set the output to "Both". Moreover, I would modify the "normal" preset to be one/two octaves up/down, to make it more distinctive from the external one.I've never done it, though I always thought of it (XL-7 arpeggiating external gear). Might be worth gathering our finidings, once we have a 100% reproducible way of doing it.2015-09-13 18:02 GMT+02:00 mindkil@... [xl7] <xl7@yahoogroups.com>:
Thanks, my manual was missing this section (REvision F), but I downloaded now the Rev. G which has this info.As I see the procedure is to use an internal arp preset as a dummy, and send the output to External. I sat it up like this, and while playing through the pads, the arp is sent out to MIDI, but as I record it to XLÉ-7 Sequencer, it stops sending out Arp through MIDI.I think I did everything as instructed: Arp/Riff MIDI Out to Transmit Both, I have the arp track that goes to MIDI Out on ext., made an arp: sound with no sample playing from it. I have “Rechannelize Input” Off.Any idea, what can be wrong? Or is it just a way how XL-7 works - sending Arpeggiator through MIDI Out, only if it is played via the pads, and not from the sequencer?
