well this is certainly more complex than a rom install!
anyway, the psu is internal.. there is a picture in the photos section that i posted which shows the psu. you can see a white ribbon cable going from the psu to the motherboard. you disconnect that from the psu and measure each rail individually. the output will be labelled ont he board and should be something like +12 -12 Ground +5 -5 or something.. you'll have to look on the board for the exact values or find the service manual.
you make contact between the + tip on your multimeter probe to one of the power rails (+12v for example) and the other multimeter probe contacts with the ground. The output measured should be what the board/service manual says. if it is too low then you can assume the psu is at fault. this would need to be done while the unit is on so there is a risk of injury from shock or frying your unit if you make the wrong connections. anyway, the psu is internal.. there is a picture in the photos section that i posted which shows the psu. you can see a white ribbon cable going from the psu to the motherboard. you disconnect that from the psu and measure each rail individually. the output will be labelled ont he board and should be something like +12 -12 Ground +5 -5 or something.. you'll have to look on the board for the exact values or find the service manual.
if you are inexperienced with this i would suggest taking it to a repair technician and have them check it out.
there are not going to be any tutorials etc online for this unfortunately.. it is a matter of reading and thinking twice before you do anything! i am not a service technician or expert with this at all, i have just been able to figure out some basics by getting service manuals and reading online..but i have been able to to some minor repairs like replacing knobs/switches, and replacing the LCD screens in some of my units. i have also done a psu upgrade/replacement for my emu ultra sampler.

I see. The E-Mu LCD already has the 2x7 & 2x1 Headers. I'd have to buy & solder them to the generic LCD.
This is all new to me, so bare with me please. The only VU meters I'm familiar with measure audio volume. What am I looking for?And the power supply is internal? Not the cord/plug, correct? Again, can you point me in the right direction? Web searches are tough when you don't know what you're looking for.And I thought I was just installing a ROM.
