RE: [xl7] korg es1 (correction)

2002-04-05 by Andre Lewis

If your after a DJ tool, don't get the es1, you won't be able to load enuff
samples. If your after a kickass drum/sample sequencer, totally different
story. If your after a drum sequencer, It's practically a must. Customm drum
hits, superb. Long phrases with clips from soundtracks, well you simply don't
have enuff room loadable at one time on it. The SP-808 can dump wav files back
and forth on a zip100 disk, up to 44khz and a 100mb size. You can resample
through it's kickbutt effects etc, sequence and multitrack. For DJ work you may
want to look on ebay for one.

Let me correct one statement I made about
loading/saving samples on the ES-1:

You *can* load individual samples, either ES-1 format
from one of the saved back-up files or WAVE (32kHz)
from the smart media card. You are, however, still
limited to the 4MB internal memory limit for all
sounds/patterns/songs.

Another nice thing about the ES-1 is the format
conversion utility for your PC that let's you take
samples recorded directly into the ES-1 and turn them
into WAVE files. As far as I know, the Roland units
(SP-303/505) do not offer such a s/w utility.

I like sampling directly into the machine, then be
able to tweak externally in a computer audio program,
then load back into the little sampler.

This utility be downloaded from the Korg ES-1 site.
