If you hold shift (tap) while switching I believe you can keep the current pattern mutes.

Most likely BC you have a program change pointed at your bts channel.

How is the usage of riffs thru audition ?

When you said "pattern mode" at first I did not think you meant that you had the trigger buttons set up to "Select Patterns" but rather that you were in pattern play mode and that the track enable/mute buttons got changed by pressing the audition button. So I explained things based on what I thought was the most likely scenario you had.

But maybe you did have the button set to select patterns. Even if not, I thought I'd play around with a feature I never use (using the trigger buttons to select patterns). So, as long as I am figuring it out, I thought I'd share what I learned. Its kind of simple: I set T1 -> T8 to different patterns. While one is playing (CurPat), I can arm the next up pattern (NextPat). To jump to the next pattern (instead of waiting until the end of a pattern aka Ln), you can do the immediate RTZ trick: press and hold play and on the beat (or whenever) press stop. You can toggle the 16 buttons between Track Enable/Mute mode and Trigger Mode on the fly. I am not sure (maybe Matt or someone else knows), but it seems when the next pattern comes up (NextPat -> CurPat), the track enables/mutes switch to whatever had been stored with the pattern.

By the way, I tested this with patterns that used channels assigned to Port A. Then on C01B, I hit Audition. It functioned as expected--meaning that audition riff assigned to the preset on C01B played as expected. HOWEVER (and that's a big however), when NextPat became CurPat, the Basic Channel (the one on the display) changed, as did the preset on the Basic Channel, and so did the audition riff. Not sure if there's a workaround for this rather obscure test.

Perhaps when I have an external controller set up to do beats I will see what happens to beats in this kind of situation. Switching the Beats Mode to use a trigger channel and a beats channel on port B is not a work around.

By the way, when you are using the buttons as beats triggers, pressing any of the 16 buttons with turn the audition button light on. Pressing the audition button at that point will turn all selected beats parts off.

Out of curiosity, are you trying to do something specific?

Still not sure what you meant by pattern mode becoming deactivated. Maybe its something other than what I addressed.

Steve
