Clock sync to envelope trigger?

2014-07-18 by janoch23@...

Traded my P2k for an MP-7, kept the XL-7 ROM as well.

Now, I'm trying to set up a faux side-chain compressor, by either lowering the amplevel or increasing vattack at the start of each beat.

Sounds simple, doesn't it, either:

1) make a patchcable from ClkQtr -> lag0, then lag -> amplevel -100
2) make a cable ClkQtr -> rtxfade, then set up two layers
3) make a cable ClkQtr -> lfo1trig, then lfo1 -> amplevel -100
4) ClkQtr -> aenvtrig, then aenv -> amplevel

But it doesn't work!

1) and 2) seems to trigger after the fact, so the volume changes 1/8th of beat too late.

For 3) The LFO way sort of works, but it keeps shifting it's sync by half a beat, so half the time it does what it is supposed to do (raising the volume in between kicks) and half the time it instead lowers the volume. And it only works at all if i set the LFO waveform to some rectangular type (like square).

4) seems to trigger at random

It also seems like using the various clocks divisions as modulations sources doesn't work properly. Or am I just using them wrong? It sounds to my ears like the aux envelope and lfo retriggering works haphazardly, making rhythmic effects impossible.
