Check out the “XL-1 Unique Patches for XL-7” patch banks I uploaded to the group files way back when (in the Command Station Data folder) - there are a few presets in there that are nice. I think the XL-7 presets are quite good for the most part. The MP-7 presets are a mixed bag, but some are good for the urban genres.
Sadly, there are not many extra banks for the XL-7 or MP-7 ROMs beyond the XL-1 Unique Patches banks, which are just the E-mu programmed presets for the XL-1 that aren’t also on the XL-7 ROM. I think there were something like 258 or 259 unique patches and a few were cut to make the two banks of 256
At one point I was going to do something similar for the MP-7 and Mo’Phatt patch banks (find the unique patches in the Mo’Phatt presets and arrange them in a bank), but it’s hard to do without a patch librarian program. I used MOTU Unisyn way back when to build the XL-1 Unique Patches bank from the XL-1 presets that had been re-wired to point to the samples on the XL-7 ROM, but Unisyn doesn’t run on Mac OS X versions after 10.6 Snow Leopard. Maybe I’ll set that up on an external drive at some point and try it - probably around the same time I try to hack an install of Cakewalk’s now abandoned Mac instruments (Rapture and Dimension Pro, which won’t install on anything newer than Mac OS X 10.6) into my current 10.9 Mavericks setup.
If you’re not much of a programmer, consider using the built-in randomizer to create new patches - it’s easy and comes up with some bizarrely interesting sounds.

Picked up a P2k with XL7+MP7 roms (no P2k rom).
Presets s*ck, but I now the engine is immensely powerful. Are there any really exceptional sound sets I should check out? Something like JayB's soundsets for the Korg 05R/W, that really turns it into a new machine.
