What possible midi from the virus would you want to record onto the command station? That makes no sense. You want to record control changes in a sequence/song? that would still place the virus AFTER the xl-7. You just need to assign knobs on EITHER the novation controller or the command station to the CCs you want to tweak on the virus. Route the midi on the command station. This is simple.
This was a very similar setup to my live rig up until about a year ago. Novation 49 SL mk II -> XL-7 //(midi A)-> Roland MKS-50 //(midi B)-> Ensoniq ESQm -> Novation Bass Station Rack -> Roland R8MOn Mon, Jun 10, 2013 at 5:17 AM, Bruno <brunorc@...> wrote:
Aha, so here's the secret then...
OK, seems like AMT4 and AMT8 are completely different beasts, AMT8 being in fact the Unitor8 with chopped-off SMPTE sync. Now I understand the posts on AN1x forum, claiming that AMTs won';t work on anything beyond Win 2000.
What I can say is that I have Unitor8 MK I (RS-232), Unitor8 MK II (USB) and AMT8 (USB), working together as a stack under Windows XP with SP3. I tried all possible combinations at some point, including the USB<->RS-232 adapter connected to Unitor MK I. Everything worked OK, except that at some point the Unitor8 Config (an old eMagic software used for configuring the devices) stopped working. Since I have it running on Mac, I didn't bother so much getting it back into shape.
I also have a small Win XP/SP3 PC in my drawer (yes, it is so small), which I only use for some MIDI-related stuff (ancient editors for ancient synths, Cakewalk 3.00, E-Loader etc.), with no plans to switch to a more modern OS, so compatibility issues don't concern me.
YMMV, as always.2013/6/9 steve_the_composer <smw-mail@...>
Hmmmm. I have 2 MT4s that I have abandoned because they simply do not work in XP. (The drivers are Win98 or WinNT which cause problems in my XP. And, yes, I even tried the Unitor drivers which people have gotten to work with the MT4's big sister. In fairness, they did work at one point, but that was probably before SP2 or SP3 which I believe changed how usb worked with Windows. Either that or I have something more important that conflicts with the MT4 drivers.)
I never thought of them as stand-alone midi mergers, perhaps because I'd need a couple of 5 volt wall-warts for stand-alone operation as they are powered by usb (unlike the MOTu Express XT which connects to AC). If I can find an inexpensive 5 volt wall-wart and can figure out how to hook the power up, maybe I will give the MT4 a try in stand alone mode. Would be nice to have a 2 in 4 out midi merger, if I could get power to it.
I had actually open one up to see if I could cannibalize it for use with an Arduino. OMG!!!! The Arduino I have can run off a 9V wall-wart (thanks to some regulators), so maybe I can take the 5 volts from the Arduino. Hmmmmmmmmm . . . .
(Stay tuned for further developments.)
