I know u could save the program changes inside ur pattern or song. This would jump to the appropriate patches on the virus whenever u load the pattern or song on the emu.
As far as using the emu for a patch librarian this maybe accomplished using sysex dumps but I have never done it. Does anyone else have more insight?
Also my friend zapper live PA uses a virus rack and uses "multisetups" for live use each multisetup changes the virus channels to corresponding presets for that multisetup but I don't have a virus and can't really advise further.
