hi mic i havent played live so far, but i must add something to the pattern switch thing. right now there is a little bug, that happens only when you try to change a pattern that has been edited. sometimes the xl7 struggles when changing from another pattern to the edited one. only a very people did experience that bug and emu has promised to fix it in the next os. the new os is sheduled for the end of this week. perhaps you should ask again in a few weeks. as far as i know there will be a lot of other new features like a superbeats mode (like the xl1 has). the midi routing is nearly perfect !!! (any channel any port) you have 16 tracks that can be routed to one of the 32 internal channels and / or to one 32 external midi channels (midi out a / b ) there is some kind of rechannelizing function so that you dont need to change the channel of you masterkeyboard when you record different xl7 channels. sadly this only works on the internal sounds, but i hope this will be fixed in the new os. for me the two midi outs have been the main reason why i bought it and im glad i did it. ive worked with roland grooveboxes, and i must say the xl7 is miles ahead of those boxes. you even have the possibility to send a track to two different midi channels. i havent used the step sequencer very often, but it seems usefull. you have: length (in %), resolution , autostep (y/n) and a locator. velocity will always be played velocity. it has one kind of a problem. right know it is not possible to tie notes together to create one long one. again i hope that this will be fixed in the new os. one thing i like very much about this box is the possibilty to access realtime and grid record while the pattern is playing. you can even change channels while you are in record mode. btw: try this on a yamaha motif = no way ;-) you can save during play without any problems. the patterns can easily be muted using the 16 command buttons on the left side. since ive seen you on the waldorf list as well, i have to add one thing. the xl7 delivers sounds that fit well with a q or a xt. it has good drum sounds and synth sounds that can easily be intergrated into a playback, because they dont take so much space like the waldorf sounds. i personnaly like my xl7 very much. it helps me to develop ideas easily. it has very cool drum pads and most functions can be accessed without stopping the sequencer. a big plus is the possibilty to use the e-loader to save your patterns as smf files on your computer. alexander _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
