Re: Patterns suddenly sounding 'different'... (velocity curve)

2013-01-11 by K2500X

Well I'm just really used to hearing the first few factory preset patterns in the XL-7 since I tend to play a few of them when I turn on the machine for the first time in a while.

You can try it yourself. Just start the sequencer running and then start switching between the global velocity curves. You'll notice volume and timber changes (if velocity is also patched to something like filter-ENV) between the instruments as you switch the curve.

e.g. a sequenced note velocity of 76 (as shown on the display) really isn't 76 if you're using a global velocity curve other than linear. The 76 becomes whatever the curve translates it to by the velocity curve graphs in the back of the manual.

Does that seem somehow 'off' to anyone else? Is it best to just keep the XL-7 in linear mode if you don't want the patterns sounding different than originally intended?
