Hmmmm. now that you mention phasing, I am remembering something I stumbled onto a few years ago. I turns off all FX and anything that would cause minute delays or pitch shifts, chorus, flange, etc. I repeatedly hit a note and found that the timbre of the same note played one after another was different, like there was an unexplained phase differential. I don't remember much more of my experiments or if I ever tracked the cause down. I want to say that with each keypress, depending on what the processor was doing, there was a miniscule phase difference.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about; not sure how much of this I am remembering correctly.  I will try to search the archives.
