Re: Substitute Rack for ROM?

2012-05-31 by steve_the_composer

It can't be that bad!!!

One rack unit boxes have 5 little knobs on the left side: 1 for master volume and 4 for CCs. Those are 12-controller units.

The CS and P2500 have a volume knob and 16 controller knobs arranged in 4 rows of 4 columns. Those are 16-controller units.

Inspired by Bruno's report that his PK-6 is a 16-controller unit, I looked at a YouTube video for the PK-6. In addition to the master volume knob, the PK-6 has 4 CC knobs laid out on the panel in a right angle to 4 buttons. The 4 buttons determine the functioning of the 4 knobs.

In short, if you have 16 CC knobs, it is a 16-controller box; if you have 4 CC knobs and 4 buttons to select the CC knobs, it is also a 16-controller box.

However, if you have 4 CC knobs and have a little button that rotates through three states (A-D, E-H, and I-L), it is a 12-controller box.

Ta daaaaaaaaaaah. :)
