As others have pointed out, you can indeed use Sound ROMs made for the P2K synth engine in the CS (and P2500) that were originally designed for single rack unit and keyboard variants. Also (as pointed out) factory patterns intended for a CS/P2500 ROM will either not sound right, or will not sound at all. These boxes use ROM IDs, Bank numbers, and Preset numbers to point to presets. The factory sequences (indeed all sequences) will have pointers to the ROMs and presets being used. So, if you don't have a ROM installed with the correct ROM ID, you should get no sound. If the ROM ID is the same but the order/numbering of the presets is different, the sequences will play different sounds. You probably could change the presets in the sequences to point to presets for ROMs you do have, but it might be more fun to create your own sequences. Hope this helps. The ROMs I'm most interested in are hard to come by, but I see the rack versions they're based upon are plentiful and cheap. Could I connect, say, an Xtreme Lead-1 to my MP-7, as a "workaround"? > > I use a Mac and Ctrlr crashes on launch, so I wouldn't be able to edit the ROMs, to install in the MP-7. But I wouldn't mind eventually buying multiple racks, if I could somehow chain them to my Command Station and get a poor-man's version of installing extra ROMs. > > Thank you! - Jammes >
