I and others have written about E-Mu usb drivers on XP. I had the hardest time until either SP2 or SP3. I think Windows changes how composite usb devices were handled. I assume you have SP3. That being said, if you don't have the usb drivers installed, that shouldn't be your problem. I do believe several people had problems with specific usb midi interfaces. Possibly some ate sysex, I think. I would look at the midi monitor in e-loader and see what is going is going on in terms of the communication (if you can do that while in OS install mode--not sure about that). I will try to carve out some time to see if I can find related discussions in the archives (unless you already checked there). Since the download partially happens, I think the USB MIDI interface and connection are OK.
