Re: [xl7] Anything I need to know about S/PDIF?

2012-02-15 by Alwyn

The only issue with S/PDIF that i recall reading about was that S/PDIF only worked at 48kHz, and not 44.1kHz.

This is probably not an issue for anyone anymore, and i haven't actually tested it so i can't say if it's true or not.. but if you have some issues, check this.

I have to speak about the spdif cables from hosa, (also 1/4" and stereo rca) I have both hosa and monster. The problem with hosa is they die often. Not a problem if you have more than a couple as spares, but monster guarantees their cables, just take it back where you bought it, with the receipt, and they give you a new one. (Lifetime warranty). I have 4 dead hosa spdif (also too many to count of the other hosa). No returns just hoping one day another unit will work with them. I usally tear the others (1/4" and rca's) in half and use the good parts together.
Good luck...

I have my XL-7 going into my Edirol M-16DX digital mixer using S/PDIF - perfectly clean and no hiss whatsoever. Get a good RCA cable (I got a 2-meter Hosa “digital” RCA cable (shielded) for about $10 - works great), but don’t bother with the $100 cables from Monster.

I finally have an audio interface that offers S/PDIF, so I'm about to hook up my XL-7, once I pick up a cable.

Anything I need to know? Any rude surprises? Is this one of the jacks that doesn't actually work?
